We were the closest family possible. Our world was turned upside down on 05/03/09 when my best friend, the person I love most next only to our children, my sister Trina was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer. Her body gave out on her on 01/09/10 but she will ALWAYS be a part of our daily life and will continue to be in my posts. I started my blog to chronicle our daughter's international adoption from Guatemala and have continued to use it as a journal.

What you will find is my family trying to adapt to our new lives that were handed to us.

Busy weekend already and prayer request

Tonight was going to be a normal Friday night. Seems like whenever I have a relaxing day/evening planned something happens. Everything was going as hoped for until Norm decided that he was going to go to the union delegate meeting tonight. They were planned for tonight and all day tomorrow. Norm was going to go to the one tomorrow but then overtime became available so he put in to work the morning and then go to meetings in the afternoon. He got a call from a co-worker who was going to the evening meeting tonight and Norm talked to him and decided that he better go too. So Norm hurridly got ready and left the house around 6:30pm. Cool, I was thinking, I get the house to myself. So I settled in for the night, made a fire and watched "November". Have you seen it? It came out about two years ago with Courteney Cox. Very strange movie. I didn't really care for it. Anyway, I've been having a lot of pain in my neck/shoulders/back area today, more than usual so I decided to take an extra pain pill and muscle relaxant so I could try to get some relief and then planned to go to bed as soon as they kicked in. A few minutes later, someone came knocking on the front door. I figured it was Norm and he forgotten his house key. So as I'm walking from the family room to the living room, the knocking gets louder. By the time I reach the kitchen, the knocking has turned to pounding and mom was yelling "Cam! It's me! Let me in!" That got me running to the door and I unlocked it to find mom with crazy eyes, holding a dazed Asa in a blanket. It was about 9:15 pm. My heart jumped to my throat and I struggled to stay calm until I knew what was going on. My first thought was something was wrong with my dad as he gets panic attacks and has had several visits to the ER for them. Mom blurted to me that my cousin Gary's wife died this morning. Gary, his brother Jr and sister Kim live in Pendleton, Oregon while their sister Denise lives in Alaska. All four of them are in their late 30's, early 40's. Turns out that Gary's wife had neck surgery about 2 weeks ago and wasn't feeling very good last night when she and Gary went to bed. Gary wanted to take her to the doctor but she refused. When Gary woke up this morning she was dead. So right now, as we speak, Denise is on a plane headed to Portland. Kim called mom and asked mom if she could pick up Denise from the Portland airport and take Denise to Troutdale, Oregon, about a half hour from Portland. Mom asked me if I could drive while Asa stayed with my dad. So as soon as I get finished posting this, I'm going to get ready and drive to the airport with mom. My best friend Amanda taught me that things come in 3's. Great. Now I'm wondering who the 3rd person will be. Last month my dad's niece's husband died and my birthday party was postponed for a week while my parents went to the funeral. So please pray for Gary that he will be comforted, well, as much as he can when you suddenly lose a spouse. Both deaths were very sudden. Bob, my cousin's husband who died last month, had had a heart attack 2 weeks prior and then collapsed at home. He was on life support long enough for his kids to say goodbye. So there you have it, what I'll be doing tonight. I'm already having a cup of coffee so I am bright and perky for the drive. That sounds like I'm going to be wearing a push up bra. Yeah, I won't be. Wearing a push up bra, that is. God forgive me for being sarcastic at a time like this. I first wrote "God forgive me for being glib at a time like this" but changed it to sarcastic as glib makes me think of that freak Tom Cruise. Anybody else want him to be struck with a mental illness? I mean one that's worse than the one he has already. Besides, I don't think stupidity is a mental illness. Until later.........

*UPDATE*
Mom and I made it back home just fine. It's 12:54 am. It was great to see Denise and Kim again. I haven't seen them in about 5 years, since my grandpa's funeral. Gary's wife's name was Lauren and here's a scary fact; the surgery she had 2 weeks ago was the same one I had done in April 2003, a cervical fusion. Thank God I'm alive. I can live with the constant pain, at least I'm alive and okay.

Hooray for Andrea!!!!

My fellow blogger and wonderful person, Andrea, received her and her husband's referral today!!!! A huge WELCOME to their beautiful son!!!!! I'm so happy for you guys!!!!

5 Things: Hot Guys Edition

I woke up at 5:30am this morning. Who the heck wakes up at 5:30? Me, apparently. I finally decided to give up hope of going back to sleep and got in the shower at 6:15. I turned on the tv, started watching some videos and came up with my topic of 5 Things today. Give me your opinion and who you think is hot.

1. Brad Pitt & George Clooney: Yes, they tied for 1st in my book. Clooney was just named People's Sexiest Man Alive and who am I to argue with that???? My mom and sissy think he may be secretly gay but I refuse to believe that until I hear it from him. Pitt is not too shabby himself. *sigh*

2. Anthony Kiedis and John Fruscante: Another tie because they are both members of Red Hot Chili Peppers. Norm and I went saw them in concert in August. So hot!!!!

3. Jeremy Piven: There's just something arrogant about this man that is juts hot! It doesn't hurt that I'm a fan of Entourage.

4. Jason Statham: From "The Transporter" and "The Italian Job". In my mind Norm looks like him.

5. Charlie Gibson: Yes, the ABC News anchor. I've had a crush on him for about 20 years. HOTTIE!!!! His last week on Good Morning America I actually scoured the internet for a cheap flight to NY to see him tape his last show.

So, tell me, who you think is hot?
