We were the closest family possible. Our world was turned upside down on 05/03/09 when my best friend, the person I love most next only to our children, my sister Trina was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer. Her body gave out on her on 01/09/10 but she will ALWAYS be a part of our daily life and will continue to be in my posts. I started my blog to chronicle our daughter's international adoption from Guatemala and have continued to use it as a journal.

What you will find is my family trying to adapt to our new lives that were handed to us.

We have a name picked out!

Yesterday mom, Trina and Asa were over and we hung out while I frosted some Christmas cookies. I was telling them about Andrea and her beautiful baby boy, Kaylon, which got me thinking about baby names. Hopefully we will be on the waiting list by December 1st and we don't have a name picked out. So I pulled out my baby name book and started going though names. Sawyer, Boone, Jack (can you tell we watch "Lost"?) and mom said she wasn't going to be happy with anything other than Diego. Well, Asa heard that and started singing the "Go Diego Go" theme song and dancing. I went through all the baby boy names and highlighted the ones I liked. We wanted something Hispanic but then again, the baby will have my last name AND Norm's last name so that takes care of the Hispanic part, plus we want to keep the birth name as the middle name so I guess we don't need to have a Hispanic/Latin first name. Anyway, after Norm got home, he was reading his comics (yes, he's 36 and reads comics) in the bedroom and I walked in there. I told him that in the next week or two we really need to narrow down some names. He looked at me confused and said "I thought we already had a name" and brought up our conversation that we'd had about a month ago of a name that I've loved for a few years but he didn't really care for. Turns out he likes it now and we have decided that yes, we will use that name. SO! You will have to wait until we get the baby to hear the name. My parents and sister know it, as does Norm's family. My sister? She doesn't like it. I think she's forgetting how I played the supportive sissy role when nobody else but me liked the name she picked out! Now we all love Asa, the name and the boy! Mom asked me what we were going to do if the baby is a girl. I told her we are going to be so screwed if it's a girl because we haven't even thought of a girl name. We're just planning on it being a boy. Mom wanted a girl until she asked Asa what he wanted. Asa said he wanted a baby brother. So that's that. I always call the baby Asa's sibling instead of cousin. They are going to be raised so close that they will be more like siblings than cousins. And now Trina has talked of adopting!!! She said she doesn't want to get pregnant again, plus she's getting older (37) and she does want another kid. It's just something she threw out there. They aren't ready for another baby.

On to my 5 Things that I'm grateful for today:

1. Christmas cookies! They are so yummy and only come around once a year!

2. We have a name!
