We were the closest family possible. Our world was turned upside down on 05/03/09 when my best friend, the person I love most next only to our children, my sister Trina was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer. Her body gave out on her on 01/09/10 but she will ALWAYS be a part of our daily life and will continue to be in my posts. I started my blog to chronicle our daughter's international adoption from Guatemala and have continued to use it as a journal.

What you will find is my family trying to adapt to our new lives that were handed to us.

Corey is still having an impossible time getting a Mixco BC. If you've had the same problem or are having the same problem, please email her at cgaynes at gmail dot com. Thank you.

WE HAVE IT!!!!!!

We just got V's Visa!!!!! We were getting a bit worried this afternoon as the assistant was going to deliver it today after he got it. Well, by 2 pm I had Norm call P. as he hadn't been by the hotel yet. P. said that he was in the office and had sent an assistant to pick up the visa and she wasn't back to office yet. So by 5pm mom and I were panicking, thinking oh no, what if they didn't get it. What if we are stuck here until Monday?! I tried to call P. at 5:30 and no answer. Oh no! Finally around 6pm the phone rang and it was P. He was in the hotel lobby. He had the visa!!! I ran down and got him and had him come back to our room. We had a really nice visit with him for about a half hour. We learned some really interesting things about the country and other stuff that we will treasure forever. We also had our picture taken with him which we will keep and show to Valentina later. She will know just how much everyone cared for her at the hogar and how her birth mom wanted a better life for her. When V grows up, if she wants to try to track down her birth mom, we will fully support her and do whatever we can to try to find her. So, this will probably be my last post from Guatemala as our internet is scheduled to be disconnected sometime in the morning and we are leaving the room around 10 am. We have had a very interesting time here, I'm forever thankful that mom was able to come with us and cannot wait to get home, although I'm so glad we came early. It has been an amazing 10 days and will be something I will keep with me forever. It is also something that Valentina will hear about many many times as she grows up. I feel like a HUGE chapter of our life has ended and now the real journey is just beginning. I was very emotional while P. was here and teared up several times. Valentina is finally ours and she is feeling like mine now. Again, I thank each and every one of you for your countless prayers, support, good wishes, etc..... Until later.......

Thanksgiving Day Recap

First off, we have a full kitchen in our hotel room. Well, everything but a stove. However, they keep the pots, pans, plates, glasses etc... in a locked cupboard in our room. Norm has tried to pick the lock several times. He went down to the lobby to ask someone to unlock it and all he got was a curt "well what do you need?" Norm said he needed some plates and glasses. The chick said "oh, we'll have some brought up to you." Huh? So, for some reason they don't want us to actually use the kitchen. Well, they didn't plan on Norm staying in the room!

Thursday morning, Norm was hungry for a grilled cheese sandwich.
Getting there.......
....... and the finished product! Yes, he "grilled" it directly on the flat top stove. It was pretty tasty too!
Valentina, playing on the floor on her first Thanksgiving
Happy girl! She loves the Dora book Grama gave her
This is a Thanksgiving card that Asa made for us that was sent with Norm. I cried when I saw it for the first time.
And on the back, papa drew an outline of his hand for mom
Now, on to Valentina's party dress that she wore yesterday. Lori commented that she was afraid it was going to be too small. It was. But mom, being the ever creative sewer that she is, devised a way to give it more room.
She used a sock to attach the buttons to and moved them all the way over
This way it not only fit V, it also was a little stretchy and very comfy for her!

Getting ready to leave for the Westin
Our little family of 3. When we got to the Westin, I kept my eyes peeled for Candy. As we were headed to the restaurant, sure enough! Mom saw her first. I was sooooo happy to see her! It was so cool to finally meet her and her beautiful family. She's such a sweetheart and has 2 of the cutest kids ever!
As soon as we started eating, V started to fuss, of course! She was tired. Daddy was able to put her to sleep which gave me time to wolf down my food.
Then I took over and gave Daddy time to eat.
Back at our hotel, our little family in front of one of the Christmas trees in the lobby. V loves the lights! She's going to have a ball at our house as I put up lights everywhere!
We get her Visa today and go home tomorrow!!!!! YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot wait to get home and see my Asa and have a picture taken of all of us! FINALLY!!!!!! I hope everyone had a GREAT Thanksgiving! Until later.......
