We were the closest family possible. Our world was turned upside down on 05/03/09 when my best friend, the person I love most next only to our children, my sister Trina was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer. Her body gave out on her on 01/09/10 but she will ALWAYS be a part of our daily life and will continue to be in my posts. I started my blog to chronicle our daughter's international adoption from Guatemala and have continued to use it as a journal.

What you will find is my family trying to adapt to our new lives that were handed to us.

Goldendale Pictures

Wednesday, about 40 minutes out of town and both kids were conked out. We left right around Valentina's nap time so it was perfect.
Andrea, does this drive look familiar?
My parents driveway is a half mile and in the middle of nowhere. I let Asa sit on my lap and "drive" to Beya and Papa's. I only had to correct Asa's steering about four times.
TT aka Tia Trina aka Sissy holding Valentina during Asa's driving lesson.
Valentina liked it better when TT was lifting her through the sunroof.
Mom had this adorable swimsuit all ready for Valentina. Like I said, Beya really spoiled us. I just happened to catch this picture of Valentina grooving along to some music in her head while Asa played blocks with Papa.
TT pushing our beloved in an empty diaper box......
..... and doing the same with Asa.
Papa loves playing with his grandkids!

No caption needed.
What sweethearts.
My parents old pickup and the vehicle that I learned to drive on. I have many, many good memories of this truck.
In the summer and fall when we would pick cherries and apples, this teeny, tiny trailer is what we would live in. Papa would pull the trailer with the blue pickup.
The sink in the trailer. Mom has a picture of me as a baby taking a bath in this sink.

Most of the fam in the infamous blue pickup.
And me reliving memories in the drivers seat while Asa looked on.
Asa making fish lips Wednesday evening.
Talk about bed head Thursday morning!
Of course Valentina woke up a happy camper and gave no indication as to how she really slept. She was up at least three times. She slept with Beya and Papa in their bed and I slept fabulous in my old room.
No, that's not a monkey on Papa's back, it's an Asa! Papa was walking up to his shop and Asa wanted to go with him so Asa just hitched a ride.
Breakfast time! Mom bought this old, old highchair a long time ago. It worked great for Valentina. She almost always has to eat with a fork now. We tell her to "stab it", meaning her food with her fork, and she says "tab eh".
"tabbing eh"
Mom had Papa set up this pool for the kids. The blue drums are 55 gallons of water. This is what we would store our water in (Beya and Papa still do as there is no running water). Talk about water conservation, Papa said we would go through about 3 of these a week in the summer. That was our drinking water, our shower water, everything. This is why I think I've done my part and can let the water run while I brush my teeth. However, I need to start doing better so I can teach Valentina by example.

This is what sissy and I would take our baths in growing up. Again, we didn't use much water!
Asa standing next to the tub to give you an idea how small it is.
Valentina walking around in her revealing two piece.
Beya, sissy, Aunt Nita and I went through two trunks filled with old clothes and figured out what each of us wanted and what could be thrown away. These used to be my slippers. Sissy had a pair of banana ones. We chose to throw them out but now I have them on "film".
OH! This really freaked me out. There was a big, huge, honkin' beetle on the ground next to Asa's foot that I pointed out to him. He just looked at it as did Valentina. Well, after a few seconds, Valentina just swooped down and picked it up. I hate bugs but I don't want to pass my fears on to Valentina so I just tried my best to stay calm. Valentina loved holding it and just watching it. Then she threw it in this box, watched it and then picked it up again. She really had fun with it. It amazes me how she's a tomboy and yet a girly girl, all in one.

Asa modeling an old t-shirt of mine.
Oh goodness, this is way too funny. About 25 years ago, Mom made this swimsuit. She sewed two triangle shaped pieces of swimsuit material together.......
....... you wrap in the back........
....... and tie it in the back.......
...... then tie it in the front and voila! You have a fancy schmancy new swimsuit! I can remember mom wanting to sell these and we were going to make tons of money off of them. Sissy actually took this one to wear around the house!

Ah..... is this or is this not an 80's Dynasty type dress? This little gem used to be sissy's.
The wig used to be Papa's when he was hell bent on becoming a well known comedian. Yeah, the wig was the funniest part of his routine, which is saying a lot.
Sissy had been thinking of growing Asa's hair out, ala surfer boy. Yeah, I hope she doesn't do it.
Our vintage Fisher Price Little People McDonalds store......
...... and the rest of the town. We also have some other items. Asa and Valentina love playing with them!

Leaving Beya and Papa's, at the end of the driveway, I came across this family of three deer. I didn't have the zoom on and you can see the side mirror of my car. This shows exactly how close the deer were to me.
Little Miss Fish Lips. I took this tonight, Friday. Norm, Valentina and I went out to dinner as a family of three. We went to Friday's and sat outside. The weather was perfect and the food was yummy.
After we got home tonight, Valentina was hamming it up!
I love this picture and the next one. Valentina was sooooo happy to see Daddy when we got home last night. She is becoming a real daddy's girl and I love it!
So, that was our trip and now on to the weekend. We have no plans and will probably just hang out all together, as usual. I love my family and missed them terribly today. One last thing, please keep some good thoughts for a friend of mine who is going through a tough time right now.
