We were the closest family possible. Our world was turned upside down on 05/03/09 when my best friend, the person I love most next only to our children, my sister Trina was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer. Her body gave out on her on 01/09/10 but she will ALWAYS be a part of our daily life and will continue to be in my posts. I started my blog to chronicle our daughter's international adoption from Guatemala and have continued to use it as a journal.

What you will find is my family trying to adapt to our new lives that were handed to us.

Be The Match

Please consider becoming a candidate to donate bone marrow. Be The Match is an amazing organization that assists people with the process.

Norm, Valentina, Beya, Papa and myself went to a bone marrow drive in honor of Liam Barrett. Norm worked with Liam's dad, James, while the doctors were trying to figure out what was wrong with Liam. Liam's mom, Stacey, has been a comfort to me during sissy's whole illness and especially so after her passing.

James and Stacey were chosen to go to go to the East Coast to tell about their story and put pressure on the people who write the bills and enact laws to have SCID's automatically be something a newborn is tested for at birth. It is already being done in New York and several other states are following suit.

We just wish we could have been more helpful. Norm is already on the bone marrow registry, I am unable to due to my neck and back problems, Valentina can't since she is under 18, Papa was unable to due to his age so the lone person who was able to become a donor candidate was Beya.

Also, please consider giving blood. I had never really thought much of it...... until I saw sissy receiving blood transfusion after blood transfusion during the week she was in the hospital. You can be damn sure I'll be donating blood as often as I can.

So this is my soap box post for the day.

Go to Be The Match and please consider giving blood on a regular basis.

Thank you.

Amen to that! Amen! Anybody can save a life by being a bone marrow donor! And giving blood is a no-brainer. As the slogan says "it's in us to give."

Today, just for today, I wish you a good day. A peaceful day.

Praying for you and your family…

(((hugs)))

I wish I could give blood. Unfortunately having Celiac eliminates me from being able to donate.

These are both very important to me since Kiara has received blood transfusions many times. And then needing her bone marrow transplant. Thank you for helping to get the word out to people.

I am on the donor list already for bone marrow and organ donation. You may want to put another plug in June for marrow donation...there is a company that sponsers all the donation testing kits in June so it is free to sign up...I have the info somewhere...I'll get back to you.

Sorry bone marrow free sign up is in September...I had an old email with this info: Go to www.marrow.org
On the right side of the screen, under "Events" click on the link that says "NASCAR Foundation Drive"
About 3/4 of the way down that page, click "Join online now"
Fill in the online info and the Promo Code will automatically generate
